Dawgs Kick off winter season with 2 losses but build confidence.

The Moondawgs fell for the 2nd time ( 1st in regular season) after getting knocked off by the league favorites , the Canadian Air Force on Sunday. The Moondawgs skated with the CAF team for the first 27 minutes but then the Canadians, being Canadians took over the game and exploited the MoonDawgs weaknesses. Scoring on 5 shots from the point that seemed to pinball off no less than 3 players was how the Canadians took the lead and the game. The final score was 11-5 but the 'Dawgs showed a never quit attitude by scoring 3 goals in less than a 4 minute window in the 3rd. The Canadians, once again being Canadians, flexed their hockey muscle by answering back with goals of their own within 30 seconds of 2 of the 3 goals scored by the 'Dawgs in the 3rd.

Overall the game was fun and the Moondawgs now know what they need to work on to compete in this league. Having a short bench did not help this week. We had a player out sick, a player out of town, and a player injured in the 1st. Couple that with 7 new faces on the squad this season and yeah, it is going to take some adjustments.  Growing Pains if you will.  Next game is next Sunday.

I will work on getting Bios for the 2010-2011 Moondawgs this week.

Moondawg Scoring Summary 9-18 vs Canadian Air Force
1st Period:
No Scoring
2nd Period:
Brett LaBare (1)
Donald Burrows (2)
3rd Period:
Robert Baker (1)
Evan Dawson (1)

New winter season starts Sunday

Winter Season starts Sunday. We have a sponsor which is Awesome. Thanks to A-1 Carbonic for sponsoring us.

We play those Tripods in the 1st game.. surprise, surprise eh?

Moondawgs have a few new faces  and are excited about the season. We have a few guys who are no longer with us so we would like to welcome Trey, Ryan, Paco, Pooki, and Evan on to the squad.   We had a great group of guys already and these additions are no different.

Trey and Ryan are a couple guys who were buddies outside of hockey but they are hockey players from the old school. I think Trey still uses wooden sticks , and I know he uses duct tape to tape his socks.  Paco comes to us from the Smart Alecks and Pooki is his wife. Evan is a guy who played roller hockey and has just gotten into ice.

Sean who played forward for us is the new Goalie since our goalie last year was suspended.

All in all this has the makings of a great season. We are looking forward to it and hope you, our readers, are too.  I will try to post pictures and videos as much as I can. I have a couple guys to help out on this blog this season so you should see more updates!

All good things must come to an end EH?

Well the dream was dreamed and put into action. On April 19, 2010 the Oklahoma Moondawgs were finally and actually a real life hockey team starting their first season ever playing against the Smart Alecks in the Okc Mens Adult hockey league. On Aug 15, 2010 the 'Dawgs ended their season losing to those same pesky Smart Alecks.  In what was one of the best games of the year for the 'Dawgs , the 'Dawgs fell 5-4 . They , for the most part, out played their opposition and the game was tied going into the third period. The last frame took its toll on the Moondawgs , as they only had 5 forwards and 3 D-men.  The Dawgs gave up 2 goals  very late and scored 1 with :34 seconds left to pull within 1.  The last 34 seconds the 'Dawgs  registered 5 shots on goal but couldn't put the equalizer on the board.

It was a great season and the main goal of improvement and competitiveness was , in my humble opinion, reached by pretty much everyone.   We are already looking forward to winter season , and the excitement it brings.

The Moondawg's first summer season is winding down. The Moondawgs lost to the Tripods in a close game Sunday, well the closet game we have ever played with them. We lost 5-2 . The goals were scored by M. La Torre and E. Lambeth.  The Captains are very pleased with the team progress and thing are looking up for the winter season .  There are still 3 scheduled dates left in the regular season and then playoffs.   The Dawgs hope to pull a couple wins going into the playoffs to give them the confidence they need to pull off some upsets.

MoonDawgs make it 2 in a row , after 7-2 win against the Sabres.

Moondawgs played the best game of their young history when they beat the Sabres 7-2 on Sunday. Lambeth potted 2 goals but the big surprise was the number of new faces in the goal column. New goal scorers are as follows:  Chris Robinette, Mike La Torre , Nick Fleehart, Robert Baker, and Luke Wood.  Congrats to you guys and lets keep playing hard!!   Article will be posted later.

MoonDawgs, Winless no longer!

Today the Moondawgs tasted their first taste of victory after battling the Sabres at Blazers Ice Centre.  The Dawgs scored on a short handed breakaway with 2 minutes left in the game to give them their first win of the season , and in the club's history.  The game was a tight game with the Sabres answering every goal the Dawgs scored, well every goal but the last one.

The Moondawgs scored a goal in every period to improve their record to 1-8-0 . In my opinion the score was not indicative of the game. The Dawgs out chanced the the Sabres at least 2-1. The Sabres goalie stood on his head and kept the game close, stopping shot after shot.  However a win is a win and the Moondawgs hope to extend their winning way next week when they play the Sabres again at Artic Edge an evening showdown.

Goal Scorers :
1st goal:     J. Bauman
2nd goal:   E. Lambeth
3rd goal:   B. Netterville

Great game  boys... I am proud of every one of you guys , it took a few ass kickings to get where we are now but I hope this is a confidence builder and lets you know that all the hard work will continue to pay off!

Dawgs fall twice on scoreboard but double up on the confidence.

Although at the end of a game the score is all that matters , the Dawgs  found out that the final score isn't the only indicator of whether or not the game was a good one for them. The MoonDawgs played their first double header of the season. They faced some adversity coming into the game. A couple injuries and couple of people missing were just a couple mountains they had to climb.   The first game showed the dawgs play  tough but fall 5-3 to the Smart Alecs.  Their first win still elusively evaded them. The goals were scored by Jon and Evan ...again!! However the lines showed more chemistry and all had scoring chances.

The 2nd game was against those pesky Tri-pods. The Tripods had blown out the MoonDawgs in the first 2 meetings.  This game had all the makings of another blowout. The dawgs had just played a game and had little to no rest.   The Moondawgs scored first for their first lead ever against the Tri-pods.  In the end the 'pods won 6-3  but the game was a lot closer than 3 goals. The other 2 Moondawgs lines had a ton of scoring opportunites and played AWESOME. Everyone was working together and playing well. A lot more puck movement was the key and the close games gave the MoonDawgs confidence.  Playing well has definitely lifted the 'Dawgs spirits. All of them are ready to play but will have to wait since the league is off for Memorial Day.

Highlights of the day:
Evan's Hat trick on the 'pods
Baker trying to fight Crazy Dave
and since I write this, My first penalty which was roughing , and also me goading the Tri-pods goalie into a penalty by tripping me !!

Good Job Boys!

Short handed Dawgs fall hard to TInkerHawks

Coming into their 5th game of the year the Moondawgs thought their elusive 1st win was close. With two 1 -goal losses in the last two weeks, things looked like they were coming together for the dawgs. The Dawgs faced the Hawks at Blazers Ice centre on Sunday. The Dawgs were missing 1/3 rd of their team but the show must go on eh ?

The game started with a bang but not for the Dawgs. The Hawks scored 3 times in the first 4 minutes. Its was pretty much all Hawks for the rest of the day. The Hawks ended the 1st period 6-0 . The bright spots of the day were once again Lambeth and Bauman. Both potted goals for consecutive days. The score ended 11-2  in favor of the hawks.

The Dawgs will look to bounce back next week when they play their first double header of the year. They face the Smart Alecs and then the Tripods.

Moondawgs 3 - Tinkerhawks 4

Moondawgs show some bite, but still fall short:
Written by Nick Fleehart

Sunday , the Moondawgs prepared for their 3rd game of the season against the Tinker Hawks. This matchup was up North at Artic Edge Ice Arena, game time was set for 3:30 pm.  The previous week saw the Moondawgs blown out by the D3 team in D4 teams clothing, the Tripods. The 'Dawgs took the week and prepared using a stick&puck session on Wed and some private ice on Friday night. They worked primarily on skating and passing as they seem to be the biggest obstacles of many standing in the way of that elusive first victory. The work the 'Dawgs have been putting in finally decided to show its face in the from of a competitive game against the Tinker Hawks Sunday.

The Lines looked like this:
Dave-Mike-Chris
Nick-Evan-Luke
Sean-Baker-Kyle

Gail-Justin
Jon-Kyle
Evan-Gail

The game started out with a bang for the Moondawgs as the did something they have not done yet in regulation. The 'Dawgs opened the scoring and on only the 2nd shift of the game.  Nick stripped the puck from a Hawk's defender and tied up the opposing players stick to allow Luke to take possession of the puck.  Luke shoveled the puck toward the right hand boards where Kyle picked up the puck. Kyle wound up and unleashed one of his sizzling slap shots . The shot didn't even give the goalie time to react and put the ' Dawgs up 1-0 @ 3:52  in the 1st.  The 'dawgs built the lead as the teams leading scorer, Evan, took a pass in the middle of his defensive zone and headed up the ice on a break away. A beautiful deke and a backhand laser later the 'Dawgs were up 2-0.  The Period ended with a 2-1 lead for the 'Dawgs.

The 2nd period was played well by both sides and the Tinker hawks put up 2 goals to take the lead into the 3rd period.

The 3rd period started out 3-2 in favor of the 'hawks. The hawks scored early to put the 'dawgs down 2 goals and gave them a  large hill to climb if they wanted to tie the game up. Both sides played great defensive hockey for almost the rest of the game. With 4 minutes left in the 3rd there was a scrum in front of the hawks goalie. Sean put a shot on goal and the rebound came out to Evan. Evan knocked home the rebound to score his 4th goal of the season and bring his team to within 1. The last 4 minutes of the game seemed to be all 'Dawgs as they put as many shots on goal in those 4 minutes as they did in the previous Sunday's game. Although they owned the last 4 minutes the couldn't net a goal to tie it up.

The 'dawgs fought back but fell short 4 - 3.  They played a lot better than the previous game and showed immense improvement. If they continue to improve the 1st win shouldn't be too far off! There were many standouts in the game other than the goal scorers. Most of the guys played great hockey and stayed in their positions. Mike La Torre became a defensive dynamo by laying out an blocking like 6 shots.  The passing looked crisper and we played in the other teams zone a lot more than we had in previous games. Its starting to feel a lil bit like hockey.

Good Job boys!

MoonDawgs down but not out!

Moondawgs down but not out!

The Moondawgs played their 2nd game on Sunday but met the same opponent and fate as the previous Sunday. It was pretty much the same song and dance this go 'round too. Goals were scored and lots of them and none by the Moondawgs. The 1st period saw the Moondawgs only down a couple , the 2nd period just down a few more. However, in the 3rd period is when the Tripods really poured it on.  A lot of cherry picking and breakways seemed to be their modus operandi, not seeming to care that the score was already 8-0 .  I have to give it to them , they decided to stop shooting with 4 mins left after they were up 12-0.  Swell group of guys huh ?

The Moondawgs were held off the score sheet but it wasn't for lack of effort. Believe it or not we actually spent more time on offense than we did the prior week. We just couldn't convert on those opportunities or the 4 or 5 breakways we had ourselves.

The only thing the Moondawgs can do is continue to skate and try to get better. I think now , most of us have realized that its going to be a long road. Its something I had forseen but hoped for a little more positive reenforcement than we have seen.  I guess we really should not measure ourself based on the guys who have played for a while and chose to be in the lower leagues so they can feel good about their past hockey glory days. A true measuring stick will come a week from this Sunday on May 9th when we get to play some teams that are more on our level . Until then, we take our lumps and see where it takes us.

Keep Skating hard and good things will come guys!

-Nick Fleehart

Moondawgs Improve but Score still Lopsided....

Moondawgs Improve but Score still Lopsided....
-by Nick Fleehart

The Adult beginners team , the Oklahoma Moondawgs, from Oklahoma City rang in their inaugural season  Sunday April 18th. The Moondawgs formed this February and consists of 16 guys , all but 3 having no previous hockey or skating experience.

They opened their season in the OKCAHL against the Tri-pods. The Tri-pods have been in Division 4 for a couple of years and have many experienced players. The Tri-pods came out victorious in 9 - 2 game. The Moondawgs highlights lent them self mainly to two players. Evan Lambeth with both goals coming unassisted and then also the Goalie Brian Kraft. Brian faced tons of shots , as it seems we played the whole day in our zone. Brian was a machine for us but its hard to stop every piece of rubber sent your way when facing over what seems like 50 shots in a game.  The Tripods scored early and often but got a lil showy later in the 3rd when a couple big timers decided to rub in their  garbage goals.. Not to mention the cow bells that were a-ringin' from their fans. Very frustrating for a team like the 'Dawgs to have to be subject to that , and more frustrating for a team of experienced guys to want to play in the lowest division so they can do this to beginner ( or as they said 'Easy") teams.  I guess some people take pride in being king turd on Shit Island eh?

The Moondawgs,  while taking the loss , still showed fight and determination. They played til the game was finished and didnt give up regardless of the score. The big thing is the team is starting to play better as a team. We are moving the puck more and this will create the badly needed offense soon!

The guys have been sticking and pucking pretty regularly for the past couple of months and its starting to show. There are a lot of small things we can do to make us immensely better  and these are the things we are going to work on. We also will keep rotating positions to see what works for us. I want to commend all the guys for keeping their heads up and looking past this game. It's really exciting to see a team shake something like this off and already be excited and looking forward to our next game this upcoming Sunday. As my boy Baker says "I feel a win a'comin on".

==============================================

Dawgs on a personal note, you guys have improved drastically. If we keep improving like this we will fit right in with all these teams in less than half the season. Just keep doing what your doing and being students to the game. Thanks for being a great team , its still turning out to be a great season!

Question of the Day?
Have any of you ever dealt with teams/players  that should obviously be playing against more experience or better competition? What did ya think about it  and how did it affect you and/or  your team? Leave answers in comments box.

Everyone I have a link I want you guys to check out , if nothing more than for support. I have played a lot of softball in my lifetime , and i took it pretty serious at one point. Our teammate baker still plays. This blog is about one of the people who was in our softball community and was in a horrible accident last August. He suffered some very very serious injuries and is now battling with therapy. I follow and read this blog religiously and send many prayers toward this family.

I just want you guys to read and support this family in a very tough time.
Thanks guys!!

Moondawgs 4 - Other team 9 =(

Game went well even though we lost a heartbreaker  9 - 4. It really was not as lopsided as it looks. They scored most of their goals near the end of the game when we were gassed.  I know they still scored them but halfway through we were really close. We will get conditioned to be able to skate the whole game. Other than that, we learned a few things and saw a lot that we need to work on.  We will just keep working and we will get there. Thanks to everyone who came out to watch.  I have been busy the last couple of days with my real job so I will get videos up as soon as I can.

Next game is Sunday!!!

Another Friday Night , Another great Practice... Season opener countdown T-8 days!

This practice we worked more on drills , faceoffs, and actual positioning . We learned where our position was actually supposed to be instead of just winging it like we had been doing. I feel everyone learned  alot and everyone if progressing very well. We actually look better than the Mighty ducks before the met coach Gordon Bombay. HAHA!!!  I think we will be ok, however we arent cup winners just yet!!!

On a personal note my advice to people just beginning is to make sure you get the right size of skate. I have been skating on skates that are a size too big. Its really taken its toll on my ankles, my foot fatigue, and my balance. My mother in law bought them for me because my shoe was a size 12. I actually need closer to an 11 but I enjoy the room in the tennis shoes. I do not enjoy the extra room in my skates!!! So go get fitted for your skates when you buy them.

Ok since this is becoming a popular segment here it goes.
Highlights of Last night:
1. Kyle has a canon from the point. He unleashes a slapper and my boy Topher stands right in front of it. It hits him in the gut in between his chest protector and his pant pads. It left a HUGE bruise and welt. Major props for that. ( the first video I uploaded was Kyle's shot and me thinking of blocking or catching it. I just decided to wave my stick at it HA! )
2. Mike got a new nickname and its the Furher. He is from Germany and he plays physical. Its his Lacrosse background coming out!! I like a little bit of the hitting so i enjoyed running him into the boards . I also enjoyed him tying my stick up where I couldnt do anything so I got free and gave him some shin slashes HAHA!!! Good work last night Furher!
3. Last but not Least... Evan finally dropped the gloves at the end of practice. Baker and Evan went round and round . Baker pulled Evan's jersey off but pulled it to far and Evan got free and won the Descision. No not real punches but it was fun to watch. I have video of it and it will be uploaded in the next couple of days.

Oh and not really a practice highlight but my Flames played , beat, and tied the Avs lat night for the 8th and final playoff spot!  4 more wins boys! Go! Flames GO!

Finally, I am really excited about the season. The greatest part about this group of guys is we all get along and share a passion for playing and learning to play. I couldnt ask for a better group of guys to start a team with. I hope we continue this for many seasons to come.
Everyone leave us comments, we like to hear feedback!!!!

OK on to the Videos!!! A lot of people tell us to work harder but we are old men who are out of shape. Yes we need to skate harder but I am happy that everyone is learning to stay more at home. The hustle will come , as soon as we can get rid of the vomit feeling an hour thru practice haha!!!

Kyle's Bomb!

Me trying to check Kyle, I missed but still took him down!!!

Please subscribe and Leave comments!!

PhotobucketOklahoma Moondawgs

Oh and because I created this blog and I can do this
GO FLAMES GO!

Last nights scrimmage!

Well I found out when you land on your head on the ice after getting checked by your own team mate while getting ready to score a goal , on a non-contact team  does NOT feel good! I am a sore that I only remember from my high school days after 2 a days in football and marathon wrestling practices.... OUCH!!!

Anyway It was a good night. We had a ton of people we didn't know try to show up like it was a pick up game so me being the big bad enforcer guy had to kick some people out. I got called a few names but Hey... We need all the ice we can get plus we as a team PAID 280 bucks for it , why should they get to come play for free. Anyway, We are progressing .... Everyone looked a little better than the previous week and that is all we can ask, to get a lil better every time we go out there.

Highlights of the night IMO:
1. Justin Phelps scoring a couple goals.
2. Andrew Buckley and his goals
3. Evan being a girl and not dropping the gloves when Baker challenged him , or when I challenged him, hell even with Baker and I both challenged him at the same time!! Evan apparently superglues his gloves to hands HAHAHAH!!

We got good video and photos of last night and some of them should be up shortly. However some of the wives decided to do what women do and cackle right by the camera. I am trying to find a way to take out the sound and overlay some music. They mostly make fun of how bad we are but they also talk about other stuff too. Oh and I guess My Favorite Mother in law deserves a Thank you for taking pictures. Last night was my 3 year anniversary so I also have to say thank you to my beautiful wife for taking videos and letting me scrimmage on our anniversary..... it cost me a bunch of presents but still Thanks Tanis!!!

Sorry !

Sorry for the lack of updates!  Been Busy Busy Busy.. Also still waiting on a few bio's from players. They will be up soon.

Other News: Our next scrimmage is Friday night. Watch out for more videos and pictures. Also I am working on an article to school these Oklahoma yay-hoos about what Hockey is. They seem to think only college football and goat wrestling is cool and cant understand why I would even try to play hockey!

Also is there anything you guys wanna see?  Anything about hockey that needs to be explained? I know hockey isnt big here and I dont know everything but ask away via comments or emails!!!  Also I am working on Developing an actual site instead of just a blog here.....  A lot of exciting things happening. Our first game , real game is close . It will be April 11. We are very excited!

More Bios after the hack-attack (WOW!)

First off let me apologize for last night. If anyone came to the site last night and got re-directed to another blogspot and a random website, I am sorry. #11 Chris "TOPHER" York - Defense

Age: 25
Favorite hockey team: Detroit Red Wings, now-defunct OKC Blazers

Personal Info: First time playing hockey, but I hope to stick with it for a while. I grew up always wanting to play, but being from Oklahoma, never really got the chance to until now. I grew up in Yukon, Oklahoma but went to Mustang schools. I never really played sports in school, but opted for band instead. I played the alto sax and the oboe for a little while. My favorite part of high school was marching. The best moment in that was winning sixth place at OBA my senior year. Regardless of how the season ends up, I can't wait for it to start. I'm really glad I've got the opportunity to play and am enjoying making new friends in the process.

#13 Andrew Buckley -Left Wing

Age: 40
Favorite Hockey Team:  Charlestown Chiefs
Bio: Andrew, who answers to Buckley, and various other less publishable monikers, grew up in a suburb of Chicago.  He is a self taught hockey player, which is immediately evident to anyone paying the slightest attention.  In addition to hockey, Buckley likes to run and play in the occassional softball game.  Buckley joined the team after successfully convincing Nick he could skate at a stick-n-puck session one Saturday morning…luckily for Buckley, Nick was apparently hung over and couldn't see very well that day.  Buckley has two children (ages 9 and 6), who will no doubt be active members of the MoonDawgs fan club, and they are really looking forward to getting to stay up past bedtime to watch our games!  Buckley feels fortunate to have met such great guys and it really looking forward to being a part of this team.

#17 Mike La Torre  -Left Wing

Age: 27

Favorite hockey team: Chicago Blackhawks
Bio: Mike grew up in Koeln, Germany until moving to Michigan his senior year of High School. Mike graduated from Michigan State, and moved to Chicago where he really started to follow hockey. In addition to playing lacrosse at MSU and rugby in Chicago, Mike also participates in marathons and triathlons, as well as training for the N. American Grappling Assoc. tournament in Dallas. His better half, Andrea, is an attorney for the Air Force and stationed at Tinker. He is grateful to have run into Nick and the 'Dawgs at stick & puck and for helping him realize his dream of playing hockey.

League Update!

Talked to the guy who runs the leagues today , and instead asking him to make me a deal  I took cash in and said this is how much I have. You can take it and let us play in the league , and we will prob continue to play in the next seasons or we dont play. He went ahead and accepted! SO now we are actually in the league , well after everyone registers with USAHOCKEY for insurance reasons. The Seasons starts Aprill 11th so 2 weeks from Sunday is our first game.

If you have seen the videos on the blog you will see we still need a lot of work. However we are all very very excited. I have been skating 3- 4 times a week using stick and puck sessions and even open skates to work on certain things. Today I mastered Hockey stopping at slow speeds. I was so excited I felt like a little kid!

Thanks for everyone's help! Stay tuned to the blog for further updates. We have another Scrimmage this friday . ( its also my 3 yr anniversary so wife isnt the happiest but she is the Canadian so she understands..... I mean geesh it is Hockey for crying out loud!)

.... I know I promised more player Bio's... I am working on them... I really promise tomorrow.

BAM FIRST SCRIMMAGE... remember we are beginners
Photobucket

this should be all our pictures! Click the picture and it takes you to our photobucket page with the pics!
Well we made it through with no injuries or deaths. We had the whole team there but 2 players due to unforseen circumstances. We also had 5 guys come out to help us even up teams. All in All it was a great night. We got on the ice around 10 and played until 1130. Game situations are definitely different than stick and puck. All the guys seemed to do well and had fun. I think doing the private ice practices is much more beneficial than stick and pucks. We are gonna do this a couple times before the season starts for sure. A lot of falling and turnovers but overall our guys surprised the crap out of me . It wasn't just everyone chasing the puck around as I though it would be. Kyle, one of my best friends on the team, is picking this hockey thing up quite quickly. He looked great out there on the ice. Hopefully we will continue to get better.
Highlghts of the night (IMO):
1. I scored my first goal and tallied my first assist!
2. Mike is crazy and laid on the ice 3 times in one sequence to block shots.
3. Most everyone got on the score sheet with goals or assists.
4. Baker laid an amazing check and ran over Topher HAHA!!

I have over 232 pictures from last night and am trying to find away to upload them quicker. I might just add to a photobucket account and just add a few to tease you guys into visiting the photobucket. Also I have good videos of the scrimmage , I just dont know what kind of service to use to upload them. If anyone has comments on how to please send them. Also this is the teams blog and we obviously want people to read it so any thoughts on what you would like to see or hear about it are much appreciated.... Here are a few pics until I can figure out a faster way to add more!

Also I still need to introduce you to the team and will spend this snowy saturday working on that!!! Thanks guys

Oklahoma MoonDawgs

Since I started this blog today, a month after I started the team I will try to catch up.

After I got the Idea to start the team and had a few friends interested I had to 1. Find out cost and 2. Find about 10 more people to play. I found out the cost and found out Hockey was damn expensive. So Expensive ,we had to fundraise just to get some of the people to be able to play. I turned to friends and family to help out and they did. I guess a big thank you goes to my friends at Calgarypuck.com who not only bought some of the fundraiser stuff but also donated equipment to help us out. Its funny how a group of people who for the most part don't know each other can come together to help a fellow Flames fan and fellow hockey lover. The guys who donated , and those who just gave well wishes to the new team, are the epitome of Hockey enthusiasts. All of them love the sport and helped out just to see the sport they love grow. The people at CalgaryPuck.com are great people ( well most of them). I pretty much garnered all the hockey knowledge I have from them over the last few years. Thanks again guys.

Anyway it took me about 3 weeks to find a team of 15 skaters and a goalie. A lot of interested people contacted but getting people to commit , whom you can get along with is difficult especially when money is involved. However I have finally got a team and we are called the Oklahoma MoonDawgs. They are a great group of guys and they share not only my passion of hockey but also the drive to not only play but to improve ourselves.
We have been skating and going to Stick and Puck sessions 2 -3 times a week. I have seen a drastic improvement in everyone from skating to shooting everyone is moving in the right direction and they are having fun doing it. We obviously are all for the most part very green and new but we can do nothing but continue to get better from here.

If this blog accomplishes only one thing, I hope it serves as motivation for other people sitting on the fence deciding if they wanna play to get out there and do it. You can never be a hockey player if you don't get out and play hockey. One think I have learned There are tons of people just like you and me who are scared, embarrassed , or just just beginning and want to play. They just need a push out into the deep end, I hope this yours!!! Hit the Ice!

Tonight is a big night for us. Most of us are going to see our first game speed action. We are having an inter-squad plus a few friends scrimmage. It should be interesting. My wife should be there to get Video and Pictures so everyone can have a good laugh. Hopefully tomorrow I can post them here along with introducing you to the guys on the team.

Btw here is a rendering of our jerseys.

The Birth of a Beginners Adult Hockey team

Hi I am Nick. I am your average guy. I like guy stuff , mainly Sports. In 2006 my wife Tanis, whom is Canadian, took me to my first NHL Hockey game. The hometown Calgary Flames were taking on provincial rivals the Edmonton Oilers. This is the night that I fell in love with Hockey.

I have grown up playing sports and was generally above average or decent at them. Since I considered myself decent at sports I figured I wanted to become a hockey player. I mean really it can't be that hard right? ( I was wrong) I have toyed with the idea since my wife and mother-in-law bought me my first skates on my birthday in 2007. Finally 3 years later , Skating very little and definitely not a good skater, I have gotten pro-active and decided to start a hockey team.

This blog is dedicated to chronicle the growth and the development of a Beginners Hockey team and its Players...
